29” Length circular knitting needle, size 10½ OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
Crochet hook, size 4.50 mm (G).
GAUGE
19 sts = 4”; 36 rows (18 ridges) = 4” in Garter St on size 10½ needles.TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
SHAWL
With circular needle, cast on 1 st.
Row 1: K in front and back of st – 2 sts.
Row 2: K1, k in front and back of last st – 3 sts. Row 3: K1, k in front and back of next st, k1 – 4 sts.
Row 4: K2, k in front and back of next st, k1 – 5 sts.
Row 5: K to last 2 sts, k in front and back of next st, k1 – 6 sts. Rep Row 5 until there are 175 sts on needle. Bind off all sts.
FRINGE
Cut one 20” long strand of yarn and fold in half. With crochet hook, draw strand through left edge of shawl between 1st 2 garter ridges forming a loop. Pull ends of fringe through this loop. In this manner, make fringe along left and right edges of shawl working between garter ridges. Trim fringe to even off if necessary.
Note: For speedier cutting, wrap yarn multiple times around a piece of cardboard that is the desired finished length of the fringe. Cut lower edge to free wrapped strands.
