MATERIALS8(9-10-12) Balls BERROCO CALICO (50 grs), #1836 Purple Power Straight knitting needles, sizes 7 and 9 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE Five 1 1/4” buttons GAUGE18 sts = 4”; 29 rows = 4” in Ridge Pat on size 9 needles TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE RIDGE PATTERNRow 1 (RS): Purl. Row 2: Purl. Row 3: Knit. Row 4: Purl. Rep these 4 rows for Ridge Pat. BACKWith larger needles, cast on 63(67-73-77) sts. Work even in St st for 1”, end on WS. Work even in Ridge Pat until piece measures 9 3/4(10 1/2-11-11 1/2)” from beg, end on WS. Mark beg and end of last row for beg of armholes. Work even until armholes measure 5 1/4(5 1/2-6-6 1/2)”, end on WS. Shape Neck and Shoulders: Next Row (RS): Work 21(22-25-27) sts, join another ball of yarn and bind off center 21(23-23-23) sts, work to end. Working both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge EVERY row twice. When armholes measure 5 3/4(6-6 1/2-7)”, end on WS. Bind off 19(20-23-25) sts each side for shoulders. LEFT FRONTWith larger needles, cast on 32(35-37-39) sts. Work even in St st for 1”, end on RS. Cast on 4 sts at beg of the next WS row – 36(39-41-43) sts. Work even in Ridge Pat until piece measures 9 3/4(10 1/2-11-1 1/2)” from beg, end on same row as back. Mark end of last row for beg of armhole. Work even until armhole measures 3 3/4(4-4 1/2-5)”, end on RS. Shape Neck: Bind off 5(7-6-6) sts at beg of the next row, then bind off 5 sts at neck edge every WS row once, bind off 4 sts once, then dec 1 st at neck edge every WS row 3 times – 19(20-23-25) sts. Work even until armhole measures 5 3/4(6-6 1/2-7)”, end on same row as back. Bind off for shoulder. Mark position of 5 buttons evenly spaced along front edge, the first 3/4” above 4 cast-on sts at bottom, the last 3/4” below beg of neck shaping and the others evenly spaced between. RIGHT FRONTWith larger needles, cast on 32(35-37-39) sts. Work even in St st for 1”, end on WS. Cast on 4 sts at beg of next RS row – 36(39-41-43) sts. Work even in Ridge Pat for 3/4”, end on Row 2. Buttonhole Row (RS): K3, bind off 2 sts, k to end. Following Row: Purl, casting on 2 sts over sts bound off on previous row. Complete to correspond to left front, working neck shaping at beg of RS rows and making 4 more buttonholes opposite markers. Sew shoulder seams. SLEEVESWith RS facing, using larger needles, pick up and k52(54-58-64) sts along armhole edge between markers. Purl 1 row. Work even in Ridge Pat for 6 rows, end on WS. Dec 1 st each side on next row, then every 3/4(1- 3/4- 3/4)” 10(10-12-14) times more –30(32-32-34) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 10 1/2(11 1/2-12-13)”, end on WS. Work even in St st for 1”, end on WS. Bind off. FINISHINGSew side and sleeve seams reversing seams over St st at lower edges. Neckband: With RS facing, using smaller needles, beg 4 sts in from right front edge, pick up and k19 sts along right front neck edge, 30(32-32-32) sts along back neck edge, then 19 sts along left front neck edge to 4 sts from in from left front edge – 68(70-70-70) sts. Beg with a p row, work even in St st for 1”, end on WS. Bind off. Sew on buttons. |
