Our Jasper coasters are an ideal first project for double pointed needles. Felting

deepens the colors of this self striping yarn.

Approximately 4” across (after felting)

MATERIALS

1 Ball BERROCO JASPER (50 grs), color of your choice.  We used #3816 Blue Bahia, #3831 Rojo Coralita, #3817 Marron Brown and #3810 Copper Silk.  One ball will make several coasters.

1 Set (4) double pointed knitting needles (dpn), size 9 (5.50 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

6 St markers (1 a different color)

Tapestry needle

GAUGE

18 sts = 4”;  22 rows = 4” in St st (unfelted)

TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

COASTER

With dpn’s, cast on 90 sts.  Join, being careful not to twist sts.  Divide sts evenly onto 3 needles (30 sts per needle). Mark for beg of rnd with different colored marker and carry marker up.

Rnd 1:  K15, * place marker, k15, rep from * 4 times more.

Rnd 2:  Knit.

Dec Rnd:  * SSK, k to 2 sts before next marker, k2 tog, sl marker, rep from * 4 times more, SSK, k to 2 sts before last marker, k2 tog – 78 sts.

Next Rnd:  Knit.  Rep the last 2 rnds 6 times more – 6 sts.  Break off yarn leaving a long end.  Thread end into tapestry needle and draw through all sts on needles.  Pull up tightly and secure.

FINISHING

Felt coaster in washing machine using hot water and soap.  When piece reaches desired size remove from washer, shape by hand and allow to air dry.  Using small sharp scissors, carefully trim fuzz from edges to give coaster sharper points and a more defined shape.
