A very hip zippered vest in Plush.

 

Shown in size Small.

SIZES
Directions are for women’s size X-Small. Changes for sizes Small, Medium, Large and X-Large are in parentheses.

 

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Bust (closed)– 36(40-44-48-54)”.
Length – 21-1/2(22-22-22-1/2-23)”.

 

MATERIALS
BERROCO PLUSH (50 grs), 5(5-6-7-8) balls #1912 Clean Air Blue.
Straight knitting needles, sizes 8 and 10 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
One separating zipper to fit measurements from Custom Zips (see address under zipper instructions on pg. 1).
1 St Marker.

 

GAUGE
3 sts = 1”; 5 rows = 1” in St st on size 10 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

 

BACK
With smaller straight needles, cast on 57(65-71-77-87) sts.
Row 1 (RS): K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.
Row 2: P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 2” from beg, end on Row 1. Change to larger needles and p the next row, decreasing 3(5-5-5-5) sts evenly spaced across – 54(60-66-72-82) sts. Work even in St st until piece measures 12” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 2(2-2-2-4) sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other RS row once, then every RS row 4 times – 40(46-52-58-64) sts. Work even in St st until armholes measure 8-1/2(9-9-9-1/2-10)”, end on WS.
Shape Shoulders and Neck: Bind off 5(7-8-9-11) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 5(6-8-9-10) sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 20(20-20-22-22) sts for back neck.

 

LEFT FRONT
With smaller straight needles, cast on 29(33-35-39-43) sts.
Row 1 (RS): K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.
Row 2: P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 2” from beg, end on Row 1.
Next Row (WS): P1, k1, p1, p to end, decreasing 2(3-2-3-2) sts evenly spaced across – 27(30-33-36-41) sts. Keeping 3 sts at front edge in ribbing as established, work remaining sts in St st until piece measures 12” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armhole: Bind off 2(2-2-2-4) sts at beg of the next row, then dec 1 st at armhole edge every other RS row once, then every RS row 4 times – 20(23-26-29-32) sts. Work even in pat as established until armhole measures 6-1/2(7-7-7-1/2-8)”, end on RS.
Shape Neck: Work 3 sts and sl these sts to holder for frontband, bind off 2(2-2-3-3) sts, p to end. Dec 1 st at neck edge EVERY row 5 times – 10(13-16-18-21) sts. When armhole measures 8-1/2(9-9-9-1/2-10)”, end on WS. Bind off 5(7-8-9-11) sts at armhole edge once, then 5(6-8-9-10) sts once.

 

RIGHT FRONT
Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping.

 

SLEEVES (Optional)
With smaller straight needles, cast on 29 sts. Work in ribbing same as for back for 3-1/2”, end on Row 1. Change to larger needles and p the next row, decreasing 1 st at each end – 27 sts. Work in St st, inc 1 st each side every 4th row 0(0-0-3-11) times, every 6th row 0(5-10-9-3) times, every 8th row 4(5-1-0-0) times, then every 10th row 4(0-0-0-0) times – 43(47-49-51-55) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 19(18-1/2-18-17-1/2-17)” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Cap: Bind off 2(2-2-2-4) sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other RS row 2(2-3-2-2) times. Work even on 35(39-39-43-43) sts until cap measures 2-1/2(2-1/2-2-1/2-2-1/2-3)”, end on WS. Bind off all sts loosely.

 

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams.
Neckband: With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at right front neck edge, k1, p1, k1 from holder, pick up and k12(12-12-13-13) sts along right front neck edge, 21(21-21-23-23) sts across back neck edge, 12(12-12-13-13) sts along left front neck edge, then k1, p1, k1 from left holder – 51(51-51-55-55) sts.
Next Row (WS): P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across. Work even in ribbing as established until neckband measures 3”, end on WS. Bind off all sts in ribbing.
For Optional Sleeves: Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams.
Armbands (For Sleeveless Version): With RS facing, using smaller straight needles, pick up and k58(62-62-66-70) sts evenly spaced around entire armhole edge. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 1”. Bind off in ribbing. Sew side and armband seams.
For Both Versions: Sew in zipper from lower edge to top of neckband.
