FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Chest – 28(30-32-34-35-36)".

MATERIALS
BERROCO COTTON TWIST (50 grs), 3(3-4-4-5-5) hanks #8306 California Turquoise (A), 2(3-4-4-5-5) hanks #8300 Lolita Lime (B), and 1 hank each #8317 Sunshine Yellow (C) and #8392 Obsessive Pink (E).
Straight knitting needles, sizes 7 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
16" length circular knitting needle, size 7.
Crochet hook, size 4.5 mm (G).
2 St Holders.
Tapestry Needle.

 

GAUGE
19 sts = 4"; 26 rows = 4" in St st on size 8 needles.

STITCH GLOSSARY
Sc Dec
Draw up a loop in each of the next 2 sc’s, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook (1 st dec’d).

 

NOTE
To measure length of body and sleeves of this garment, flatten out rolled edge and measure from beg.

 

BACK
With smaller straight needles and A, cast on 66(72-76-80-84-86) sts. Work even in St st for 6 rows, end on WS. Change to larger needles and work even in St st for 4 rows. * Change to B and work even in St st for 10 rows, end on WS. Change to A and work even in St st for 10 rows, end on WS. Rep from * 3(4-4-4-4-5) times more. Change to B and work even in St st for 12(0-6-12-10-6) rows. Change to A and work even in St st for 0(0-0-0-8-0) rows. Piece should measure 15-1/2(16-1/2-17-1/2-18-1/2-19-1/2-20-1/2)" from beg. Bind off 20(22-24-26-27-28) sts, sl center 26(28-28-28-30-30) sts onto holder for back neck, join yarn and bind off last 20(22-24-26-27-28) sts.

 

FRONT
Work same as for back until piece measures 13-1/2(14-1/2-15-1/2-16-1/2-17-1/2-18-1/2)" from beg, end on WS.
Shape Neck: Work 27(29-31-33-34-35) sts, sl center 12(14-14-14-16-16) sts onto holder, join another hank of yarn and work to end. Working both sides at once, bind off 3 sts at each neck edge once, bind off 2 sts once, then dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row twice – 20(22-24-26-27-28) sts each side. Work even until piece measures same length as for back, end on WS. Bind off all sts each side for shoulders. Sew shoulder seams. Measure down 5-3/4(6-6-1/2-7-7-1/4-7-1/2)" from shoulder seams on each side of back and front and mark for beg of armholes.

 

SLEEVES
With larger needles, using B, pick up and k55(57-62-66-69-71) sts between markers. Beg with a p row, work even in St st for 9 rows, end on WS. Change to A. Continue working in A and B stripes same as for back and, AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st each side of next row, then every 6th row 5(9-6-8-10-15) times, then every 4th row 6(2-7-6-5-0) times– 31(33-34-36-37-39) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 10-1/2(11-1/2-12-13-14-1/4-16)" from beg, end on WS. Change to smaller needles and work even with A until sleeve measures 11-1/2(12-1/2-13-14-15-1/4-17)" from beg, end on WS. Bind off all sts.

 

FINISHING
Daisy Applique (Optional): Center: With crochet hook, using C, ch 1.
Rnd 1: 4 sc’s in beg ch.
Note: DO NOT join rnds. Mark 1st sc for beg of rnd.
Rnd 2: 2 sc’s in each sc – 8 sc’s.
Rnd 3: * 2 sc’s in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, rep from * around – 12 sc’s.
Rnd 4: * 2 sc’s in next sc, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sc’s, rep from * around – 16 sc’s.
Rnd 5: * 2 sc’s in next sc, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sc’s, rep from * around – 20 sc’s.
Rnd 6: * 2 sc’s in next sc, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc’s, rep from * around – 24 sc’s.
Rnd 7: * 2 sc’s in next sc, 1 sc in each of the next 5 sc’s, rep from * around – 28 sc’s. Join with a sl st to 1st sc and fasten off. Center should measure 2-1/4" across.
Petals: With crochet hook, using D, join yarn in outside edge of center and work 1 sc in next 4 sc’s.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each sc. Rep this row twice more.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn. Work 2 sc’s in first sc, 1 sc in next 2 sc’s, then 2 sc’s in last sc – 6 sc’s.
Row 6: Ch 1, turn. Work 1 sc in each sc. Rep this row 5 times more.
Row 12: Ch 1, turn. Sc Dec, sc to last 2 sc’s, Sc Dec – 4 sc’s.
Row 13: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each sc.
Row 14: Ch 1, turn. Sc Dec in first 2 and last 2 sc’s – 2 sc’s.
Row 15: Ch 1, turn. Sc Dec. Fasten off. Make 7 more petals around center. Using tapestry needle and A, embroider face as shown using 1 French Knot (Wrap yarn around needle 5 times) for each eye and Stem Stitch for mouth. Sl st daisy to front of sweater as shown in photo. Steam pieces lightly. Sew side seams, reversing seams over rolled edges. Allowing edges to roll back, tack at side and sleeve seams.
Neckband: With RS facing, using circular needle and A, beg at center back neck, k13(14-14-14-15-15) sts from back holder, pick up and k13 sts along left front neck edge, k12(14-14-14-16-16) sts from front holder, pick up and k13 sts along right front neck edge, then k remaining 13(14-14-14-15-15) sts from back holder – 64(68-68-68-72-72) sts. Mark for beg of round and carry marker up. Work even in St st (k EVERY round) for 1". Bind off all sts loosely knitwise.
