MATERIALS
BERROCO COTTON TWIST (50 grs), 10(11-12-13) hanks #8301 White.
Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 and 8 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
Cable Needle (cn).
7 1" BERROCO buttons, #A300 White.
2 St Holders.
1 St Marker.

 

GAUGE
23 sts = 4"; 24 rows = 4" in Cable and Knotted Rib Pat on size 8 needles.
24 sts = 4"; 28 rows = 4" in Knotted and Spiral Rib Pat on size 6 needles.

STITCH GLOSSARY
KFB
Knit in front and back of next st (2 sts made).
CF6
Sl 3 sts to cn and hold in FRONT, k3, then k3 from cn.
CB6
Sl 3 sts to cn and hold in BACK, k3, then k3 from cn.
NOTE
Due to the nature of Knotted Rib, the number of sts will vary from row to row.

 

KNOTTED RIB (Multiple of 3 + 2)
Row 1 (RS): P2, * KFB, p2, rep from * across.
Row 2: K2, * p2 tog, k2, rep from * across.
Rep these 2 rows for Knotted Rib.

 

SPIRAL RIB (Worked over 4 sts)
Row 1 (RS): (K2 tog, leaving sts on LH needle, then k first st again) twice.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: K1, k2 tog, leaving sts on LH needle, then k first st again, k1.
Row 4: Purl.
Rep these 4 rows for Spiral Rib.

 

CABLE PAT (Worked over 9 sts)
Row 1 (RS): Knit.
Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl.
Row 3: CF6, k3.
Row 5: Knit.
Row 7: K3, CB6.

Note: When binding off on RS rows, eliminate KFB’s over sts to be bound off and bind these sts off knitwise. When binding off on WS rows, if there is a p2 tog in Knotted Rib, work the p2 tog, then bind this st off (this counts as 1 st bound off).
Shape Armholes: Bind off 5(3-5-5) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then bind off 4(3-4-4) sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every RS row 8 times, end on WS – 77(95-101-113) sts. Work even until armholes measure 10(10-10-1/2-11)", end on WS.
Shape Shoulders and Neck: Bind off 5(8-9-11) sts, work until there are 16(25-27-31) sts on RH needle, (this includes extra sts made by KFB’s), join another hank of yarn and bind off center 39 sts, decreasing 2 sts across each cable, work to end. Working both sides at once, bind off 5(8-9-11) sts at beg of the next row, then 6(9-10-12) sts at beg of the next 4 rows. AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at each neck edge every RS row twice.

 

LEFT FRONT
With smaller needles, cast on 63(69-75-81) sts.
Foundation Row (WS): (K1, p1), 3 times, place marker, k2, (p1, k2) 3 times, * p4, k2, (p1, k2) 3 times, rep from * across, end p1, (k2, p1) 0(2-4-6) times.
Row 1 (RS): K1, work Row 1 of Knotted Rib over 11(17-23-29) sts, * work Row 1 of Spiral Rib over 4 sts, work Row 1 of Knotted Rib over 11 sts, rep from * to marker, end (k1, p1) twice, k2 – 75(83-91-99) sts.
Row 2: (K1, p1) 3 times, * work Row 2 of Knotted Rib over 11 sts, work Row 2 of Spiral Rib over 4 sts, rep from * across, end work Row 2 of Knotted Rib over 11(17-23-29) sts, p1 – 63(69-75-81) sts. Work even in pats as established until piece measures 5" from beg, end on WS.
Dec Row (RS): P13(19-25-31), (p2 tog, p13) twice, p2 tog, p12, drop marker and sl 6 sts of frontband onto holder – 54(60-66-72) sts. Change to larger needles.

Row 2: (K2, p2 tog) twice, k2, * work Row 2 of Cable Pat over 9 sts,k2, p2tog, k2, rep from * to last 5(13-21-29) sts, end (p2 tog, k2) 1(3-5-7) times, p1 – 54(60-66-72) sts. Work even in pats as established until piece measures 10-1/2" from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armhole: Bind off 5(3-5-5) sts at beg of the next row, then work 1 row even. Bind of 4(3-4-4) sts at armhole edge once, then dec 1 st at armhole edge every RS row 8 times, end on WS – 37(46-49-55) sts.
Shape Neck (RS): Work to last 2 sts, k2 tog. Rep this dec every RS row 17 times, then every other RS row twice – 17(26-29-35) sts. When armhole measures 10(10-10-1/2-11)", end on WS.
Shape Shoulder: Bind off 5(8-9-11) sts at armhole edge once, then bind off 6(9-10-12) sts twice.

 

RIGHT FRONT
With smaller needles, cast on 63(69-75-81) sts.
Foundation Row (WS): P1, (k2, p1) 3(5-7-9) times, * k2, p4,(k2, p1) 3 times, rep from * twice more, k2, place marker, (p1, k1) 3 times.
Row 1 (RS): K2, (p1, k1) twice, * work Row 1 of Knotted Rib over 11 sts, work Row 1 of Spiral Rib over 4 sts, rep from * twice more, work Row 1 of Knotted Rib over 11(17-23-29) sts, end k1 – 75(83-91-99) sts. Work even in pats as established until piece measures 1-1/2" from beg, end on WS.
Next Row (Buttonhole): K2, p2, k2, yo, p2 tog, k2, work to end. Continue to work in pat as established until piece measures 3 1/2" from beg, end on WS. Make 1 more buttonhole. Work even until piece measures 5" from beg, end on WS.
Dec Row (RS): Work to marker, sl these 6 sts onto holder, drop marker, p12, p2 tog, (p13, p2 tog) twice, end p13(19-25-31) – 54(60-66-72) sts. Change to larger needles.
Foundation Row (WS): (P1, k2) 3(5-7-9) times times, * p9, k2, p1, k2, rep from * to last 3 sts, end p1, k2.
Row 1 (RS): Work Row 1 of Knotted Rib over 8 sts, * work Row 1 of Cable Pat over 9 sts, work Row 1 of Knotted Rib over 5 sts, rep from * once more, work Row 1 of Cable Pat over 9 sts, work Row 1 of Knotted Rib over 8(14-20-26) sts, k1 – 60(68-76-84) sts. Work in pats as established and complete to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping.

 

FINISHING
Steam pieces lightly. Sew shoulder seams.
Left Front/Neckband: With RS facing, sl 6 sts from holder to smaller needle. Join yarn, inc 1 st at inside edge (to be added to ribbing) and work in ribbing as established to end – 7 sts. Work even in ribbing until band, when slightly stretched, reaches to center of back neck. Bind off all sts in ribbing. Sew inside edge of band to left front and neck edges and along back neck edge to center point. Mark position of 7 buttons, evenly spaced along front edge, the first 1-1/2" up from lower edge and the last 1/2" below beg of neck shaping.
Right Front/Neckband: With WS facing, sl 6 sts from holder to smaller needle. Join yarn, inc 1 st at inside edge and work in ribbing as established to end - 7 sts. Complete to correspond to left front/neckband, making 5 more buttonholes opposite last 5 markers (2 have already been made in lower section). Sew inside edge of band to right front and neck edges and along back neck edge to center point. Weave bound-off sts of bands tog.
Armbands: With RS facing, using smaller needles, pick up and k120(120-124-128) sts evenly spaced around entire armhole. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 1". Bind off all sts in ribbing. Sew side and armband seams. Sew on buttons.
