Directions are for size 6. Changes for sizes 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 are in parentheses.

 

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Hip – 36(37-38-39-40-42-44-46)".
Waist – 26(27-28-30-31-33-34-36)".
Length – 27".

 

MATERIALS
BERROCO SENSUWOOL (50 grs), 11(11-12-12-13-13-14-14) balls #6334 Black.
Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 and 7 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
24" length circular knitting needle, size 6.
2 St Markers.
For Elastic Waist only: 1-1/4" wide elastic to fit around waist plus 1".
For Draw String Waist Only: 1 pair double point needles, size 4.

 

GAUGE
21 sts = 4"; 30 rows = 4" in St st on size 7 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

 

STITCH GLOSSARY
SSSK
Sl 3 sts knitwise to RH needle and k these sts tog (dec 2).

 

BACK
With smaller straight needles, cast on 95(99-101-103-107-111-117-121) sts.
Row 1 (RS): K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.
Row 2: P1, * k1, p1, rep from * to last 2 sts, k2. Rep these 2 rows twice more, dec 1 st at beg of last row – 94(98-100-102-106-110-116-120) sts. Change to larger needles. Keeping first 5 sts in ribbing as established and remaining 89(93-95-97-101-105-111-115) sts in St st, work even until piece measures 10" from beg, end on WS. Discontinue ribbing and work all sts in St st until piece measures 18" from beg, end on WS. * Dec 1 st each side of next row. Work 11 rows even. Rep from * twice more. Dec 1 st each side of next row. Work 1 row even – 86(90-92-94-98-102-108-112) sts.
Waist Darts: Row 1 (RS): K1, SSK, k21, SSSK (right dart), place marker, k36, place marker, k3 tog (left dart), k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1. Work 5 rows even.
Dec Row 2 (RS): K1, SSK, k to 3 sts before first marker, SSSK, sl marker, k to next marker, sl marker, k3 tog, k to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1. Work 5 rows even.
Dec Row 3 (RS): Rep Dec Row 2. Work 5 rows even.
For size 8 only: Dec Row 4 (RS): K to 2 sts before first marker, SSK, sl marker, k to next marker, sl marker, k2 tog, k to end.
For all sizes: Piece should measure approximately 25-1/2" from beg and there should be 68(70-74-78-82-86-90- 94) sts remaining, end on WS. Bind off all sts.

 

FRONT
With smaller needles, cast on 95(99-101-103-107-111-117-121) sts.
Row 1 (RS): K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across.
Row 2: K2, * p1, k1, rep from * to last st, p1. Rep these 2 rows twice more, dec 1 st at end of last row – 94(98-100-102-106-110-116-120) sts. Change to larger needles. Keeping last 5 sts in ribbing as established and remaining 89(93-95-97-101-105-111-115) sts in St st, work even until piece measures 10" from beg, end on WS. Complete same as for back.

 

FINISHING
Steam pieces. Sew left side seam. Sew right side seam from waist down to 1" below end of ribbing, leaving a 9" slit.
Waistband: With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at left side seam and, working through back lps of bound-off sts, pick up and k136(140-144-156-164-172-180-188) sts evenly spaced around waistline. Mark for beg of round and carry marker up. Work even in St st (k EVERY round) for 3/4".
For Drawstring Waist ONLY: K64(66-68-74-78-82-90), k2 tog, yo, k4, yo, k2 tog, k to end. For Both Styles: Work even until waistband measures 1-1/2". P 1 round for turning ridge. Work even in St st for 1-1/2". Bind off all sts. Fold waistband to inside along turning ridge and sl st in place, leaving a 2" opening for elastic waist ONLY..
For Elastic Waist: Cut elastic to fit around waist plus 1". Thread elastic through waistband with large safety pin. Overlap ends and sew firmly tog. Close waistband opening.
For Drawstring Waist: I-Cord: With dp needles, cast on 3 sts, * K3, slide these 3 sts to the other end of needle, without turning and K these sts. Rep from * until cord fits around waist plus 24" extra. Bind off all sts. Thread cord through eyelets at front. Ends of cord may either be sewn tog to form looped drawsting, or knotted to form 2 free ends.
