Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 and 7 OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
29" length circular knitting needles, sizes 6 and 7.
Crochet hook size 3.50 mm (E).
One 1/2” button.
GAUGE
20 sts = 4"; 29 rows = 4" in St st following Stripe Pat with size 7 needles.
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
STRIPE PAT (Worked on circular needle)
Row 1 (RS): With B, knit. Return to beg of row just worked.
Row 2 (RS): With A, knit.
Row 3 (WS: With B, purl. Return to beg of row just worked.
Row 4 (WS): With A, purl.
Rep these 4 rows for Stripe Pat.
BACK
With smaller straight needles and A, cast on 90(94-100-104-110) sts. Work in k1, p1 rib for 4 rows, inc 0(1-0-1-0) st at end of last row - 90(95-100-105-110) sts. Change to larger circular needle. Continue in St st following Stripe Pat until piece measures 13(13-121/2-121/2-121/2)” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armhole: Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 2 sts at beg of next 2(4-4-4-6) rows. Dec 1 st each side on next row, then every other row 3(2-2-3-3) times more, then every 4th row once. Work even on rem 70(73-78-81-82) sts until armhole measures 41/2(5-51/2-6-61/2)”, end on WS.
Shape Placket: Next Row (RS): Work 35(36-39-40-41) sts, join another ball of yarn k0(k2tog-k0-k2tog-k0), work to end. Work even on both sides at once until armhole measures 61/2(7-71/2-8-81/2)”, end on WS.
Shape Shoulder: Bind off 4(5-5-5-6) sts at each shoulder edge 1(4-2-1-4) times, then 5(0-6-6-0) sts 3(0-2-3-0) times. Bind off remaining 16(16-17-17-17) sts each side for neck.
FRONT
Work same as for back, omitting placket shaping, until armhole measures 5(51/2-6-61/2-7)”, end on same row as for back.
Shape Neck and Shoulder: Next Row (RS): Work 28(29-31-32-33) sts, join 2nd ball of yarn and bind off center 14(15-16-17-16) sts, work to end. Working both sides at once, bind off at each neck edge 3 sts once, 2 sts twice, then 1 st twice, AT THE SAME TIME, when armholes measure 61/2(7-71/2-8-81/2)”, shape shoulder same as for back.
FINISHING
Steam pieces. Sew shoulder seams.
Neckband: With RS facing, using smaller circular needle and A, beg at left back edge of placket, pick up and k 89(91-93-95-95) sts evenly around neck edge.
Row 1 (WS): P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.
Row 2 (RS): K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows once more. Bind off in ribbing. With crochet hook and A, work 1 rnd sc around back neck opening, making a buttonhole loop at top of left edge. Sew button opposite loop.
Armhole Band: With RS facing, smaller needles and A, pick up and k 77(83-89-95-101) sts evenly around each armhole edge. Work in ribbing same as for neckband for 4 rows. Bind off in rib.
Sew side and armhole band seams.
